Dr. Keener provides comprehensive optometric care to patients of all ages. His clinical interests include:
- Cornea and Specialty Contact Lenses – fitting custom lenses to address complex refractive errors and corneal conditions.
- Anterior Segment & Dry Eye Disease – diagnosing and managing ocular surface disorders with advanced therapies.
- Surgical Co‑management – partnering with ophthalmic surgeons to guide patients through pre‑ and postoperative care.
- Comprehensive Eye Care – routine examinations, pediatric and geriatric eye health, and management of chronic ocular diseases.
Biography
A native of western North Carolina, Dr. Jacob Keener is honored to return home and join the team at Graystone Eye. He earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Pikeville – Kentucky College of Optometry, where he was recognized for his clinical excellence and patient‑centered approach. His training included diverse rotations:
- Department of Veteran Affairs - Charlotte NC
- University of Virginia Department of Optometry - Charlottesville, VA
- Wilson Eyecare, Appalachian Regional Healthcare & Big Sandy Community Health Center - Eastern Kentucky
Dr. Keener has held leadership roles with the American Optometric Student Association (AOSA) and the American Optometric Association (AOA) Contact Lens & Cornea Section, where he championed student engagement and clinical excellence. He has volunteered with Remote Area Medical (RAM) clinics, providing free vision care to underserved populations. Through these experiences he discovered a passion for delivering high‑quality care to communities across western North Carolina—a commitment he brings to his role at Graystone Eye.
